SUBREGION
#2: The map shows an extended region of Asia we call
"Pan-Asia Crescent" in our project, but it by no means
covers all of Asia. We must eventually include all of Southeast Asia.
But as the first step toward this eventual goal, we must redefine
Japan, our own country, its people, and its place in the history of
East Asia, a thorny subject often called the "history issue" by our
neighbors. While this task concerns itself primarily with East Asia
proper, the Afghan issue demands Japan to rethink what democracy
and freedom really ought to be from an Asian perspective.
