Message from Mr. Hayashi of
the Ichikawa Daini Middle School

- Upon joining the international project "All About Me" -

Individual participants' self-introductions with pictures:

Let's try to write e-mail in English
(For Better Cross-Cultural Understanding )

  • Those of you who participate from the Daini Middle School should first engage themselves in writing up your own stories, as individuals or groups as the case may be, which will introduce you to your counterparts from other participating countries. Please keep in mind that your stories are going to be read by the young people from other cultures where values and social customs are at variance from yours. Different histories and languages are bound to produce cross-cultural precipitin gaps.

  • Take your own pictures, using digital cameras if possible, which will be of great help for your counterparts in other countries to understand what you write about describing your life in Japan. Visit the actual projects created by the pupils of America's Art-Freiler School of California, Japan's Mama Elementary School of Ichikawa City, and Nepal's Little Angeles School of Kathmandu. They will show you examples which tell you what can be more or less effective ways of portraying your life to foreign friends.

  • Upon completing this first-stage project of "self-introduction," you can embark upon a variety of more advanced projects such as brushing up your English ability, designing and undertaking joint cultural and social projects, organizing international discussion groups, just to mention a few.
