SUBREGION
#1:
The map shows an extended region of Asia we
decided to call "Pan-Asia Crescent" in our project, but it by no means
covers all of Asia. We must eventually include all of Southeast Asia.
But as the first step toward this eventual goal, we must redefine
Japan, our own country, its people, and its place in the history of
East Asia, a thorny subject often called the "history issue" by our
neighbors. While this task concerns itself primarily with Subregion #1
and #2, Subregion #3 represents the single most important issue of the
day demanding Japan to reinvent her own modern history. What's at issue
is the question whether democracy and freedom can be forced upon a
nation.
